Abstract
Preventing occupational hazards is seen to improve organizational
outcomes, and health and safety are highly valued components of
integrated operations management. Promoting employee safety
standards through the implementation of safety practices and policies
within a company is part of occupational health and safety. It has been
noted over time that Nigerian employers frequently neglect to implement
safety precautions for their workers' wellbeing. Businesses struggle with
how to allocate resources most effectively in order to retain the highest
level of staff productivity and create the safest possible workplace.
Hence, the need for this study which is to evaluate the effect of
occupational health, safety training programmes on organizational
performance, using Dangote Cement, Ibeshe, Ogun State as a reference
point. The study adopted descriptive research design, with population
of study being the entire staff (both permanent and temporary) which is
2,650 elements from which a sample size of 338 elements was drawn.
Questionnaire was developed and administered, out of which 243 copies
were returned and used for analysis in line with the hypotheses
formulated. The result shows that there was a positive significant effect
of occupational health and safety practices on organizational
performance, as all of the indices returned a significant T-values, F
values and p-values, which was enough to reject the null hypotheses
formulated. The findings led to the conclusion that that when
occupational health and safety training programmes are embraced,
employee are fit and as such increase their productivity and efficiency.
In-line with the conclusion, it was therefore recommended that
organizations should continue to ensure an policies and practices that
support occupational health while putting in place safety training
programmes to intimate the employees on the need to embrace safety at
all times.
